Hey everybirdy!
Today is a bit of a different pace. With everyone in the house feeling a little under the weather lately, I wanted to make something warm, spiced, and comforting. This Instant Pot Apple Butter is the perfect solution. While there are plenty of stovetop recipes out there, using the pressure cooker makes this “set it and forget it” simple, allowing you to focus on rest while the kitchen fills with the scent of autumn.

đź“‹ The Therapeutic Benefit: The Art of Slowing Down
Even though we’re using a modern Instant Pot, making fruit preserves like apple butter is a lesson in patience. The process of watching the apples transform from simple fruit into a thick, caramelized spread is incredibly rewarding. It’s a slow, rhythmic process that encourages you to stay present. Whether you’re spreading it on warm bread or giving it as a gift, there is a deep sense of accomplishment in making your own “jelly” from scratch.
đź’ˇ Tips for the Best Homemade Apple Butter
Natural Release is Key:
After the 20-minute cook time, let the pressure release naturally. This ensures the apples stay tender and prevents hot liquid from spraying through the valve.
The Sauté Simmer:
Once you’ve blended the apples, don’t skip the sautĂ© step! Simmering the mixture on low helps the flavors deepen and thickens the sauce to that perfect, spreadable consistency. Just be sure to stir regularly so the sugar doesn’t burn on the bottom.

đź›’ Essentials (Ingredients)
- 4 Large Apples (cored and chopped)
- 1/2 cup Water
- 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
- 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp Vanilla

👩‍🍳 Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Prep:
Core and chop your apples. You don’t even need to peel them if you’re using a high-powered blender!
2. Pressure Cook:
Add water and apples to the Instant Pot. Close the lid, set to “Sealing,” and cook on high pressure for 20 minutes.

3. Release:
Allow the pressure to release naturally.
4. Blend:
Use an immersion blender (or transfer to a standard blender) and process until completely smooth.

5. Season:
Return the puree to the pot. Stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla.
6. Thicken:
Set the pot to Saute (Low). Simmer and stir regularly until the apple butter reaches your desired thickness.

7. Store:
Transfer to mason jars and keep in the refrigerator once cooled.

Final Thoughts
Making this was such a bright spot in a week where everyone was feeling a bit down. There’s something so special about opening a jar of something you made yourself. It’s a small, manageable project that yields a lot of sweetness. Just a fair warning—this stuff is so good it might disappear faster than you expect!
