Chevreuse: Biscuits and Gravy

Hello, every birdy. Today we are doing an ultimate comfort food for my family. And I thought that it would be the perfect food for this character. I mean sometimes it is a bit hard when characters have eating in the idles. Because my immediate response is to make whatever is in their idle. But I cannot make chicken legs or whatever else in her idle because chicken legs can’t really stretch in a family of seven adults. So I thought I would make one of our families comfort foods: Biscuits and Gravy. And I will teach you how to make your own gravy. It’s really not that hard.

But first, the character in question. Chevreuse(Chev-er-use) is apart of the Patrol in Fontaine. She is another four star character that I do not have. She states that she loves food that is full of grease and sugar. She states that on her days off she loves “fat-inducing foods.” Now before anyone says anything. No biscuits and gravy will not make you fat or anything like that. However, I am not saying that it is the healthiest thing. Because it is not.

The first thing that we are going to do is make the baking powder biscuits.

I will share with you the single recipe. You can double this recipe or triple this recipe to your own liking.

For the biscuits you are going to need:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 tsp Baking powder
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • ½ cup shortening
  • ¾ cup milk

Combine the first 3. Cut in shortening. Gradually add milk – mix until soft. Shape into biscuits. Bake till golden brown. Bake 10-15 minutes.

If you want a little bit more flakier biscuit you are going to want to use butter instead of shortening. It makes the biscuit taste similar to that of a certain dough boy that we are all familiar with. You know the one that has seasonally cookies, canned biscuits and cinnamon rolls.

Now on to the gravy. Now the meat is entirely up to you and your preferences. For simplicity sake I am just going to be explaining how to make sausage biscuits and gravy. Because that is what my family prefers. You can use bacon. You could also use ground beef, However that because a different meal all together: “S.O.S.”

You are going to need:

  • Frozen Sausage Roll (If you are Walmart you will find it near the bacon. You want these because they will give you enough fat to help you with the gravy.)
  • Flour
  • Milk

It is honestly one of the easiest things you can ever learn.

You are going to first get a large pan. When we had the older stove, one that didn’t have a glass top we would use our cast iron skillet. But, now that we have the glass top, we use a less heavy pan. But one that is similar in size.

Heat up your frozen sausage. Scraping them with a wooden spoon so you have little bits of sausage. This is oddly one of the most satisfying things. Your are just going to turning your sausage and basically shaving it.

You are going to want the sausage rolls because they have a bit more fat in them. And that fat will be used to help with the gravy.

Once the sausage is in your desired size. You are going to add enough flour to coat all of the sausage. You can always add a bit more later.

Now you are going to add in your milk. This is one of those recipes that i don’t really have measurements for. Because as my mom says “listen to what your ancestors say.” And its really great when her ancestors are saying something completely different from mine.

You are going to continue stirring your gravy until it boils. If you think that it needs to be a little bit thicker you can add about a tablespoon more flour and if you thick it needs to be thinner, you can add enough milk.

There are no real measurements or time stamps when making this recipe. You just have to keep a watch on it at all times.

If you have potatoes in your house, you can always make some hashbrowns. To go on the side. Which is something that we almost always do.

You need to wash them, And then just shred them with a greater. Add a little oil to your pan and fry them. Until they are the crispiness that is desired.

Now you are going to start plating your dish.

First you need to have each person in your family crumple up their biscuits. But warn them that they are rather warm. Some of them may want bigger pieces of biscuits, while the others may want the biscuits to as small as sand.

Then you are going to place the hashbrowns on the plate next to the biscuits or on top.

And finally you are going to serve the gravy on top of that. And enjoy the comforting meal.

I will not lie to you and tell you that this is in any means a healthy dish. But it is one of the most comforting dishes. Simply because when you are sick and don’t have much of an appetite this recipe is perfect for keeping you full.

I hope that you like this recipe. There are definitely going to be more like this in the future. Feel free to check out some of my previous recipes. Remember to like and subscribe for more unique recipes and stories. Thank you.

Gravy for Biscuits and Gravy

I loved helping my mom make this recipe when I was younger because it was one of the recipes where I was like, " I NEED to know how to make this recipe."
Course Breakfast, Main Course
Cuisine American
Keyword Gravy
Prep Time 20 minutes
Cook Time 30 minutes
Total Time 50 minutes
Servings 8 People

Ingredients

  • Frozen Sausage Roll or Bacon If you are Walmart, you will find it near the bacon. You want these because they will give you enough fat to help you with the gravy.
  • Flour
  • Milk

Directions

  • Heat up your big pan or cast-iron skillet.
  • Place your frozen sausage in the pan.
  • Scrap the sides of the sausage evenly, making sure to move it around so it doesn’t stick to the pan.
  • Once the sausage is in small pieces, you are going to start on your gravy. The important thing to remember here is you want ALL of the fat from your sausage. It will help with the consistency and flavor of the gravy.
  • Add enough flour to coat all of the sausage.
  • Slowly add in your milk. Remember to stir constantly.
  • Bring to a boil.
  • If the gravy is too thin, add a tablespoon of flour.
  • If it is too thick, add a little bit of milk.
