Hello, Every birdy. I have to explain myself with this recipe. I had one goal when creating this cake: I wanted to use up a bunch of oranges and some White Chocolate Rice Crispie M&M’s. So I decided to make this cake. I am not expecting anyone to make this cake. It did not work, however, I still want to share it with you. Because even I make mistakes when baking.

I could have picked any character for this recipe. However, after giving it some thought the character that would have the biggest laugh would have to be Yae-miko. Surely because she has eaten Raiden Shoguns/Ei’s food and laughed at her for it. So I thought she would be perfect for this. Because Raden Shogun/Ei is canonical one of the worst cooks in Genshin.

Yae-miko is a publisher of light novels in Inazuma and she is the overseer of the Grand Narukumi Shrine. She is also a fox who is Ei’s servant and long-time friend. There are going to be more random Inazuma characters that have nothing to do with their favorite foods. Just because I can’t readily make these Japanese-inspired foods.

Unless you like eating orange play dough you really aren’t going to want to make this recipe. But if by some chance you want to, feel free to check out the recipe in the description down below.

For this recipe, you are going to preheat your oven to 350F. And Grease the bottoms and the sides of two round cake pans.

Now you are going to want to get your ingredients together:
- All-purpose flour
- Sugar
- butter/margarine
- Fresh orange juice
- Baking powder
- Salt
- Vanilla extract
- 3 large eggs

Even now, just looking at the ingredients and the recipe, I understand what happened. I added orange juice where I should have added milk. And it changes the whole consistency of my cake. If I were to try this again, I probably would have added in the milk first and then add in the orange juice. It would still be orange-flavored, but the texture would be cakey, not playdough-like.

Now you are going to add all of your ingredients to a medium-sized bowl and beat for 30 seconds. Making sure to scrape down the bowl constantly.

Once you have down that you are going to beat on high speed for 3 minutes, again making sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl. I added in some orange food coloring because I wanted it to look really orange.

If you are baking this cake in 2 – 9 inch cake pans you will want to bake them for 25-30 minutes. Or when a toothpick comes out clean when inserted in the center.

Cool on a wire rack in the pan for 10 minutes in the pan. And then take them out of the pan, and cool them for 30 minutes.

Make sure that it is completely cool, and place it in the fridge or freezer for about 1 hour.

Now onto the… cavity inducing icing.
- White Chocolate Rice Crispies M&M’s
- Butter/margarine
- Shortening (for some reason)

We got the M&M’s from my local food pantry, where I volunteer at every week. If they have an abundance of things they tell me that I can bring whatever it is home.

So I choose to make an icing/ frosting of sorts. I first ground up the M&M’s, and then in a bowl that had softened margarine in it, I fluffed up the margarine. Which means I mixed it with an electric mixer for about 2-3 minutes. And I didn’t remember that the M&M’s would harden. So I grabbed some shortening and added it to the margarine. Before making it fluffy.

Next, I slowly added in the crushed M&M mixture. The icing/frosting tasted good at this point.

Now I put everything together. I realized that my cake was really REALLY dense. But I just went with it.

I iced my cake and was really proud of how it looked. Because honestly, it was one of the prettiest cakes I have made.

When I went to serve it, I knew that it didn’t really go well. I ask from the dining room how it is. Thinking that something was off because there was no answer for a few minutes. And then I hear my dad say “It’s good edible playdough.” And everyone, including myself, started laughing.

I love how honest my audience is. I don’t think I would be such a good baker if they were like “Yeah, Robyn this cake was amazing! Your such a good baker.” No, I need honesty. There are times when I think something doesn’t work, but everyone else likes the product. So it helps me grow as a baker.

After looking back at this recipe and looking at the picture that I took before I tasted the end result, I keep hearing my mom’s words “We don’t care what it looks like, we just care about how it tastes.”

And with the cake, I feel that I cared more about the look of the cake, rather than the cake itself. Also if I had added the milk to the recipe, it would have been at least a little bit more edible.

I wanted to share this recipe because I wanted to show you all that not every recipe is going to be a 10. There are going to be recipes that are 1s and 2s but at least you are going to learn from them and know what to do next time.

I hope that you liked this recipe. I hope you had a good laugh. Feel free to check it out for yourself. See you in the next post. Thank you.
