Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 1 ¼ cups milk
  • 3 eggs
  • ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips finely chopped or ½ cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla

Directions

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour oblong pan 9 X 13, or 2 round layer pans, 8 or 9 X 1 ½ inches.
  • Beat all ingredients in large mixer bowl on low speed, scraping bowl constantly, 30 seconds; beat on high speed, scraping bowl occasionally, 3 minutes.
  • Pour into pan(s)
  • Bake until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean, 40 to 45 minutes; cool.
