Sul Sul, Gerbits. Today we are going to be making something you either like or hate. There is no in-between. Today we are making Quiche. Usually, you make a quiche with spinach, however, any green vegetable will work.

There really isn’t a recipe per-say to follow. So I will put the directions in the description below.

You are going to need:

  • eggs
  • cheese
  • milk
  • onions
  • green vegetables, For this quiche I used broccoli and it turned out really good.
  • most recipes have some sort of protein, I used ham. You obviously don’t have to put in meat if you don’t want to.

For the pie crust, you are going to need:

  • flour
  • salt
  • shortening
  • cold water

You are going to preheat your oven to 425℉.

You are going to start with your pie dough.

Mix together the flour and the salt in a medium-sized bowl.

Next, you are going to cut in the shortening, using a pastry blender or a fork. You are going to do this until the particles are the size of small peas.

Slowly add the cold water. Adding about 1 tablespoon at a time, tossing with the pastry blender or the fork until all of the flour is moistened and the pastry almost leaves the bowl.

You may need 1 or 2 teaspoons more of water, but you be the judge of that.

Gather your pastry dough into a disk shape, and wrap it in plastic wrap. The recipe says to place it in the fridge, however, I have always put the pie crust in the freezer, and by the time I was done with the filling, it would be ready for me to work with.

While the dough is chilling in the freezer, we are going to make the filling for the quiche.

It is very simple but very time-consuming. The first thing you are going to do is chop up your vegetables that are going into the quiche. For me, I used an onion and a head of broccoli. You can use whatever vegetables you want.

Once you are done with the chopping you are going to add your vegetables to the eggs. For one quiche pie, you are going to use four eggs. Just like if you were making scrambled eggs, you are going to add a little milk.

After you add the milk to the eggs, you are going to add a little bit of cheese to the egg mixture. I used mozzarella. The typical cheese used for quiche is Swiss, because of its denseness.

Make sure to spray your pie pan with non-stick spray, and coat it with a little bit of flour.

Now that you have your filling done, you are going to take your pie crust out of the freezer. Roll it out and shape it to your pie pan. You are going to place a little bit more cheese on top.

You are going to bake your quiche for about 45 minutes. Or until the top is a light golden brown, and when you poke it with a wooden pick, it comes out clean. And not eggy.

I know quiches seem very fancy and very intimidating, but trust me they are not. They are very easy to make, they are just a little time-consuming. This being my first time making quiche I think it turned out really yummy.
