Robby’s Winterfest Bakin g #7

Hey everybirdy! Today we are diving into a recipe that is as beautiful as it is delicious: Pizzelles. These classic Italian waffle cookies are thin, crisp, and intricately designed.

In Robby’s Baking Therapy, we believe the heart of baking isn’t just about the food, but the stories we share and the connections we build while the oven is on.

The Therapeutic Power of the Pizzelle

There is something incredibly rhythmic and calming about making pizzelles. Because you make them one or two at a time, it forces you to slow down. You can’t rush the machine! It’s a perfect time to relax, listen to a podcast, or simply enjoy the sweet aroma of vanilla filling your kitchen.

The Essentials

To make these light, crisp cookies, you will need a few pantry essentials. While these are traditionally a holiday treat, they are so simple you’ll want to make them year-round.

  • 1/2 cup Margarine (1 stick)
  • 2/3 cup Sugar
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1 3/4 to 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • Pinch of Salt

How to Make Homemade Pizzelles

1.Prep the Batter:

Cream your Imperial Margarine and sugar, then beat in the eggs and vanilla. Gradually add your dry essentials (flour, baking powder, and salt) until you have a smooth batter.

2. Heat the Iron:

Plug in your pizzelle machine and lightly spray it with non-stick cooking spray.

3. The Drop:

Place about one teaspoon of batter into the center of each patterned section on the iron.

4. Bake:

Close the lid. The first batch usually takes about 2–3 minutes as the machine warms up. Once the iron is hot, subsequent batches usually only take 1–2 minutes

5. Cool:

Carefully remove the cookies (they will be soft at first!) and lay them on a flat surface or a wire rack. They will crisp up beautifully as they cool

A Note on Heritage

In Robby’s kitchen, we believe everyone starts somewhere! Whether your first cookies were “as edible as bricks” or perfect from the start, the kitchen is a place for growth.

These pizzelles are delicate, sweet, and perfect for sharing with the people who encourage your passions. My family always encouraged me to do what I love, and I hope this recipe encourages you too.

Happy Baking!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:Can I use a regular waffle maker if I don’t have a pizzelle iron?

Robby: While a waffle maker uses a similar concept, the results won’t be the same. Pizzelles are meant to be very thin and crisp like a cracker, whereas waffles are thick and fluffy. For the authentic experience, a dedicated pizzelle iron is best!

Q: How do I keep my pizzelles crisp?

Robby: The secret is letting them cool completely on a flat surface before stacking them. If you stack them while they are still warm, the steam will make them soft. Store them in an airtight container to maintain that perfect crunch.

Q: Why use Imperial Margarine instead of butter?

Robby: Many traditional bakers prefer margarine because it helps the cookies hold their intricate shape without flattening out too much in the iron. It is also a very budget-friendly essential, often priced around $1.24 for a 1 lb box of 4 sticks.
